Mission Statement

The Alameda Labor Council, AFL-CIO is a union of unions, uniting workers from manufacturing, education, transportation, healthcare, private and public sector. The mission of the Alameda Labor Council, AFL-CIO is to improve the lives of working families—to bring economic justice to the workplace and social justice to our communities and the nation.. To accomplish this mission, we work to:

  • Build a broad movement of workers by helping workers join and form unions.
  • Support workers as they bargain with employers to improve their living conditions and workplaces, as well as their communities, state and nation.
  • Strengthen the voice of working families at all levels of government and in a changing global economy.

The Alameda Labor Council, AFL-CIO is a key part of the nation's largest and strongest labor federation—the AFL-CIO, which unites 10.5 million working women and men of every race and ethnicity and from every walk of life.

ARTICLE II.

Objects and Powers

Section 1. The objects of this Council shall be to secure united action of all locals of National and International Unions, Organizing Committees and directly affiliated local unions within its jurisdiction; through united action to protect, maintain and advance the interests of all working people in its territory; to secure legislation in the interests of the working people; to promote the formation of a committee on political education; to promote recognition and acceptance of collective bargaining in industry; to increase public understanding of the labor movement and to unite all working people regardless of sex, race, color, religion, national origin, disability or sexual orientation and to fight discrimination in any form.
